Men's '09 Fall Regatta Review

Dear Alumni

Thanks for your support and continued future support. As you all know this has been trying times after the trailer accident. The team showed they could handle the adversity by winning the Head of Chattanooga points trophy within 24 hours of the accident. We used borrowed boats, oars, and cox boxes. The Varsity and Novice men won every event entered except for the champ 4 which we placed second!

The Varsity Men have never been larger in size. We typically boat 3 eights and a four each practice. The enormous sophomore class has been the biggest reason for the increase in overall size. They have been eager to test their skills as varsity oarsmen. The sophomore class boasts 18 Dad Vail Medalists 2008.

The biggest surprise has been the 2008 Freshman Recruiting Class. The Mens Varsity 8 is comprised of three freshman among two sophomores, two juniors and one senior. Two freshman are from Saint Andrews RC and one from Massachusetts. The Champ 8 narrowly missed winning the Head of the Hooch by 4 seconds and was 0.6 seconds out of second, while taking home the bronze. This "Heavyweight 8"averages 160lbs.

We are looking forward to the spring sprint races! We plan on returning to the FIRA regatta for the second time. Last year we won the points trophy on paper. However non-members were not permitted to take the trophy home. Currently we are looking into competing in the San Diego Crew Classic this spring. There are several alumni and parents in the area to assist in housing and transportation.
