2009 Atlanta Erg Sprints

Post date: Feb 17, 2009 4:54:29 PM

The 2009 Atlanta Erg Sprints was a huge success thanks to the eleven GTCA members who helped plan and run the sprints. Since this event has been run by alumni, 8 new events have been added, and the Hammer Records and Team Point Awards have been introduced. These improvements (and more to come!) make the Atlanta Erg Sprints one of the largest indoor regattas that Concept 2 sponsors. In 2009, teams traveled from Florida, Louisiana, Alabama, South Carolina and of course Georgia to compete. A few Hammer Records were broken, and Emory College took away the team points award. Over 550 rowers competed at the event.

Thank you to all our alumni volunteers. We had great success this year and hope to continue to get bigger and better each year. This event may be our largest event as an Affinity Group and we'd love to have more help next year, so keep us in mind next February! There are many ways that your knowledge as a successful alumnus can contribute to the indoor regatta. We'll have our first meeting for the 2010 Atlanta Erg Sprints in November. It will be an open call for volunteers to pitch in with helping secure some corporate sponsorship, vendor details, or any other improvement to the Atlanta Erg Sprints. Or you can just help by handing out medals at the race!
