Head of the Hooch

This year the GTCA will be hosting an alumni spectator tent at the Head of the Hooch Regatta in Chattanooga, TN, on Saturday, November 2, 2012. We invite all alumni, friends, and parents of Georgia Tech Crew to join us in cheering on the team! We would also like to extend a special invitation to the Chattanooga Georgia Tech Alumni Network to come out and see what GT Crew is all about.

About the Race

The Head of the Hooch is the second largest regatta in the country. Watch 1,600+ crews race down the Tennessee River, hear the energy from the high school, college and masters rowing teams and the booming voices of the coxswains as they speed past the finish line in Downtown Chattanooga, TN. This Tennessee event is free for all to enjoy. Races run from 7:45 am to 5:30 pm Saturday, November 3rd and Sunday November 4th from 8:15 am to 12:30 pm.

Chattanooga, Tennessee was chosen as the site of the Head of the Hooch because it offers a great location to see rowing and enjoy the Chattanooga community. In addition to the seating areas near the finish line behind the Chattanooga Aquarium, many opportunities are available to see your favorite crew race at the Hooch. Two bridges, the Tennessee Aquarium plaza, the Hunter Museum and the Bluff View Art District, parks on both sides of the river, and a concrete walkway and bike path along much of the regatta race course all offer amazing opportunities to watch the regatta and take pictures.

The Head of the Hooch Regatta is a 5,000 meter (3.1 mile) head race on the Tennessee River ending at Ross's Landing Park in Chattanooga, Tennessee. All boats are started sequentially and will race against the clock.

The GTCA Alumni Tent

The GTCA alumni tent will be located behind the Chattanooga Aquarium, near the finish line. Look for our GTCA banners and signs. Seating may be limited, so please bring your own chair. More details to come soon!

You can RSVP on our Facebook event page.
