As the dusts settles from the spring season of 2009, Georgia Tech Crew put together another impressive season. A very young squad saw only 1 senior leave the team at season’s end — that’s for both men and women combined — but the youth did not bring down expectations or results. Georgia Tech Crew continued to assert itself in the lightweight category for both the men’s and women’s teams. The women won the SIRA regatta by a significant margin, while the men took 2nd at SIRA, 2nd at the Dad Vail and 1st at the ACRA National Championships in the Varsity Lightweight 8 event. The men’s team also tied for 2nd in team points at the Dad Vail (as the Varsity 4, pair, and Novice Ltwt 8 made grand finals), and earned 3 medals at the ACRA National Championship Regatta: Gold in the Varsity Ltwt 8 and Pair, and Bronze in the Single. Additionally, the following members of the squad earned ACRA All-Region honors: Amie Martell (Rising Sr.), Drew Mason (Rising Jr.), Thomas Evans (Rising Jr.), and Ben Loeffler (rising Sr.). Not to be overlooked are the efforts of all the coaches on the team, especially those of Coach Rob Canavan who continues to dedicate his time and efforts to improving Georgia Tech Crew.

This year Coach Rob was honored with the ACRA South-Regional Coach of the Year award. An excellent season ended for GT Crew, but even more success will be planned for, prepared for, and expected in 2009-2010.
